From Bullets to Balance Sheets: "Strategic Corporate Social Responsibility as an Empirical Engine for Post-Conflict Economic Reintegration, Equity Creation, and Livelihood Transformation in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra" – A research Report
Abstract
This study evaluates Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as an empirical catalyst for socio-economic reintegration and livelihood transitions in Left-Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected rural belts, focusing on Gadchiroli District, Maharashtra. Employing a mixed-methods empirical framework, the research examines multi-sectoral interventions by Lloyds Metals and Energy Limited (LMEL) and Lloyds Infinite Foundation (LIF) across healthcare, education, sustainable livelihoods, infrastructure, and peacebuilding rehabilitation. Primary field survey observations and structured interviews were triangulated with longitudinal corporate disclosures (FY 2023–24 to FY 2026–27) and regional socio-economic indicators.
Results indicate a rapid surge in corporate social expenditure, scaling from ₹66.55 Crore to ₹410 Crore at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 83.33%. This capital deployment directly correlates with significant outcome expansion, including 2,76,290 hospital beneficiaries, 2,300 students enrolled in formal CBSE schooling, and widespread rural infrastructure development. Crucially, the program facilitated the formal economic integration of 87 surrendered ex-combatants into industrial employment, supported by ₹1.6 Crore in Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs) and dedicated housing at Navjeevan Vasahat. This transition represents a structural shift from conflict-driven subsistence to formal capital ownership and mainstream social inclusion.
The findings demonstrate that localized, high-density CSR investments effectively reduce regional income inequality shifting the Lorenz curve inward while building sustainable human capital and replacing recurring insurgency cycles with institutionalized economic stability.
